The Mother Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHIJ KLKLMNMN

Your children grow from you apartA
Afar and still afarB
And yet it should rejoice your heartA
To see how glad they areB
In school and sport in work and playC
And last in wedded blissD
How others claim with joy to dayC
The lips you used to kissD
-
Your children distant will becomeE
And wide the gulf will growF
The lips of loving will be dumbE
The trust you used to knowF
Will in another's heart reposeG
Another's voice will cheerH
And you will fondle baby clothesI
And brush away a tearJ
-
But though you are estranged almostK
And often lost to viewL
How you will see a little ghostK
Who ran to cling to youL
Yet maybe children's children willM
Caress you with a smileN
Grandmother love will bless you stillM
Well just a little whileN
