The Lottery Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDED FGFG HIJI KLKL MNMN

Young fellow listen to a friendA
Beware of wedlock 'tis a gambleB
It's MAN who holds the losing endA
In every matrimonial scrambleB
-
Young lady marriage mostly isC
A cruel cross of hope's concealingD
A rarity is wedded blissE
And WOMAN gets the dirty dealingD
-
Such my advice to man and maidF
But though they harken few will take itG
The parson plies his merry tradeF
The marriage seems much what you make itG
-
If Pa or Ma had counsel soughtH
Of me whose locks today are hoaryI
And feared to tie the nuptial knotJ
Would I be here to tell the storyI
-
Nay lad and lass don't flout romanceK
Nor heed this cynical old sinnerL
Like bold Columbus take a chanceK
And may your number be a winnerL
-
Far be it from me to adviseM
But in the marital relationN
The safest bet is CompromiseM
And Mutual ConsiderationN
