But then this poor wretch might not be | H |

The Judge went home His daughter's child | J |
Was five that day | K |
And with sweet gifts around her piled | J |
She laughed in play | K |
Then mused the Judge 'Life oft bestows | L |
Such evil odds | M |
May he who human mercy shows | L |
