The Enigma Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEDE FGFGHGHH

The Sergeant of a Highland RegA
Iment was drilling of his menB
With temper notably on edgeC
He blest them every now and thenB
A sweet old lady standing byD
Was looking on with fascinationE
And then she dared this question shyD
That pertubates the Celtic nationE
-
quot Oh gentle Sergeant do not scoldF
Please tell me though your tone so curt isG
These bare legged boys look sadly coldF
Do they wear wool beneath their skirtiesG
The Sergeant's face grew lobster redH
As one who sends a bloke to blazesG
Then quot round about turn squad quot he saidH
quot Now blast you bend and pick up daises quotH
