The Afflicted Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DEDEAA DFDGHH

Softly every night they comeA
To the picture showB
That old couple deaf and dumbA
In the second rowB
Wistful watching hand in handC
Proud they understandC
-
Shut ins from the world awayD
All in all to eachE
Knowing utter joy as theyD
Read the lips of speechE
Would I wonder I be glumA
Were I deaf and dumbA
-
Were I quieted awayD
Far from din and shockF
Were I spared the need to sayD
Silly things in talkG
Utter hush I would not mindH
Happy they I'm blindH
