Surtax Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD ABABEFEF GBGBHIJIWhen I was young and Scottish I | A |
Allergic was to spending | B |
I put a heap of bawbees by | A |
But now my life is ending | B |
Although I would my hoarded pelf | C |
Impetuously scatter | D |
Each day I live I find myself | C |
Financially fatter | D |
- | |
Though all the market I might buy | A |
There's nothing to my needing | B |
I only have one bed to lie | A |
One mouth for feeding | B |
So what's the good of all that dough | E |
Accumulating daily | F |
I should have spent it long ago | E |
In living gaily | F |
- | |
So take my tip my prudent friend | G |
Without misgiving | B |
Don't guard your fortune to the end | G |
But blow it living | B |
Better on bubbly be it spent | H |
And chorus cuties | I |
Than pay it to the Government | J |
For damned Death Duties | I |
