Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHI JKJKLML

Selecting in the dining roomA
The silver of his choiceB
The burglar heard from chamber gloomA
A female voiceB
As cold and bitter as a toadC
She spat a nasty nameD
So even as his swag he stowedC
He blushed for shameD
-
'You dirty dog ' he heard her sayE
'I sniff your whisky stenchF
I bet you've gambled half your payE
Or blown it on a wenchF
Begone from here you rakehell boorG
You shame the human raceH
What wife would pillow share with yourI
Disgusting face '-
-
A tear the tender burglar shedJ
Then indignation roseK
And swiftly striding to her bedJ
He said 'I'm none of thoseK
I am a connoisseur in crimeL
And felonies I planM
But otherwise believe me I'mL
A GENTLEMAN '-
