Retired Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACDEDE FGHGIIIJ KLKMNONO PQPQRSRS

I used to sing when I was youngA
The joy of idlenessB
But now I'm grey I hold my tongueA
For frankly I confessC
If I had not some job to doD
I would be bored to deathE
So I must toil until I'm throughD
With this asthmatic breathE
-
Where others slothfully would broodF
beg for little choresG
To peel potatoes chop the woodH
And even scrub the floorsG
When slightly useful I can beI
I'm happy as a bboyI
Dish washing is a boon to meI
And brushing boots a joyJ
-
The young folks tell me Grandpa pleaseK
Don't be so manualL
You certainly have earned your easeK
Why don't you rest a spellM
Say I I'll have a heap of restN
On my sepulchral shelfO
So now please let me do my bestN
To justify myselfO
-
For one must strive or one will dieP
And work's our dearest friendQ
God meant it so and that is whyP
I'll toil unto the endQ
I thank the Lord I'm full of beansR
So let me heft a hoeS
And I will don my garden jeansR
And help the beans to growS
