| For frankly I confess | C |
| If I had not some job to do | D |
| I would be bored to death | E |
| So I must toil until I'm through | D |
| With this asthmatic breath | E |
| - | |
| Where others slothfully would brood | F |
| beg for little chores | G |
| To peel potatoes chop the wood | H |
| And even scrub the floors | G |
| When slightly useful I can be | I |
| I'm happy as a bboy | I |
| Dish washing is a boon to me | I |
| And brushing boots a joy | J |
| - | |
| The young folks tell me Grandpa please | K |
| Don't be so manual | L |
| You certainly have earned your ease | K |
| Why don't you rest a spell | M |
| Say I I'll have a heap of rest | N |
| On my sepulchral shelf | O |
| So now please let me do my best | N |
| To justify myself | O |
| - | |
| For one must strive or one will die | P |
| And work's our dearest friend | Q |
| God meant it so and that is why | P |
| I'll toil unto the end | Q |
| I thank the Lord I'm full of beans | R |
| So let me heft a hoe | S |
| And I will don my garden jeans | R |
| And help the beans to grow | S |
