Pragmatic Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFE EGEGHIHI JKJKLELE

When young I was an AtheistA
Yea pompous as a pigeonB
No opportunity I missedC
To satirize religionB
I sneered at Scripture scoffed at FaithD
I blasphemed at believersE
Said I There's nothing after DeathF
Your priests are just deceiversE
-
In middle age I was not soE
Contemptuous and causticG
Thought I There's much I do not knowE
I'd better be agnosticG
The hope of immortalityH
'Tis foolish to be floutingI
So in the end I came to beH
A doubter of my doubtingI
-
Now I am old with steps inclinedJ
To hesitate and falterK
I find I get such peace of mindJ
Just sitting by an altarK
So Friends don't scorn the family pewL
The preachments of the kirksE
Religion may be false or trueL
But by the Lord it worksE
