Poor Peter Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCBCB DEAEFGFH IJIJKLKL AMAMNHNGBlind Peter Piper used to play | A |
All up and down the city | B |
I'd often meet him on my way | A |
And throw a coin for pity | B |
But all amid his sparkling tones | C |
His ear was quick as any | B |
To catch upon the cobble stones | C |
The jingle of my penny | B |
- | |
And as upon a day that shone | D |
He piped a merry measure | E |
How well you play I chanced to say | A |
Poor Peter glowed with pleasure | E |
You'd think the words of praise I spoke | F |
Were all the pay he needed | G |
The artist in the player woke | F |
The penny lay unheeded | H |
- | |
Now Winter's here the wind is shrill | I |
His coat is thin and tattered | J |
Yet hark he's playing trill on trill | I |
As if his music mattered | J |
And somehow though the city looks | K |
Soaked through and through with shadows | L |
He makes you think of singing brooks | K |
And larks and sunny meadows | L |
- | |
Poor chap he often starves they say | A |
Well well I can believe it | M |
For when you chuck a coin his way | A |
He'll let some street boy thieve it | M |
I fear he freezes in the night | N |
My praise I've long repented | H |
Yet look his face is all alight | N |
Blind Peter seems contented | G |
