Poor Peter Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCBCB DEAEFGFH IJIJKLKL AMAMNHNG

Blind Peter Piper used to playA
All up and down the cityB
I'd often meet him on my wayA
And throw a coin for pityB
But all amid his sparkling tonesC
His ear was quick as anyB
To catch upon the cobble stonesC
The jingle of my pennyB
-
And as upon a day that shoneD
He piped a merry measureE
How well you play I chanced to sayA
Poor Peter glowed with pleasureE
You'd think the words of praise I spokeF
Were all the pay he neededG
The artist in the player wokeF
The penny lay unheededH
-
Now Winter's here the wind is shrillI
His coat is thin and tatteredJ
Yet hark he's playing trill on trillI
As if his music matteredJ
And somehow though the city looksK
Soaked through and through with shadowsL
He makes you think of singing brooksK
And larks and sunny meadowsL
-
Poor chap he often starves they sayA
Well well I can believe itM
For when you chuck a coin his wayA
He'll let some street boy thieve itM
I fear he freezes in the nightN
My praise I've long repentedH
Yet look his face is all alightN
Blind Peter seems contentedG
