Poor Kid Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACDD EDEDFF GHGHII JKJKLL

Mumsie and Dad are raven darkA
And I am lily blondeB
''Tis strange ' I once heard nurse remarkA
'You do not correspond 'C
And yet they claim me as their ownD
Born of their flesh and boneD
-
To doubt their parenthood I dreadE
But now to girlhood grownD
The thought is haunting in my headE
That I am not their ownD
If so my radiant bloom of youthF
Would wither in the truthF
-
'Twould give me anguish deep to knowG
A fondling babe was IH
And that a maid in wedless woeG
Left me to live or dieH
I'd rather Mother lied and liedI
To save my prideI
-
I love them both and they love meJ
I am their all they sayK
Yet though the sweetest home have weJ
To know I'm theirs I prayK
If not please dear ones never tellL
The truth would be of hellL
