Perfection Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCBCB DBDBEFGF HIHJEDED

If I could practise what I preachA
Of fellows there would few be finerB
If I were true to what I teachA
My life would be a lot divinerB
If I would act the way I speakC
Of halo I might be a winnerB
The spirit wills the flesh is weakC
I'm just a simple sinnerB
-
Six days I stray on number sevenD
I try to be a little betterB
And stake a tiny claim on HeavenD
By clinging close to gospel letterB
My pew I occupy on SundayE
And though I draw the line at snoringF
I must admit I long for MondayG
And find the sermon boringF
-
Although from godly grace I fallH
For sensed with sin my every act isI
'Twere better not to preach at allH
Then I would have no need to practiceJ
So Sabbath day I'll sneak awayE
And though the Church grieve my defectionD
In sunny woodland I will prayE
God save us from PerfectionD
