The part of me where I sit down | A |
Said she Your pants are wearing through | B |
Let me sew on a patch for you | B |
And so she did of azure blue | B |
My britches were of sober grey | C |
And when I went to school next day | C |
The fellows said Excuse our smile | D |
We saw your patch 'way off a mile | D |
Said I Sure it's the latest style | D |

So each boy asked his Ma to match | E |
With bluer blue my super patch | E |
And when to school they came en masse | F |
It was the emblem of our class | F |
Admired by every bonnie lass | F |

Now when I'm old and in my dotage | G |
I hope I'll have a humble cottage | G |
And sit me by a hive of bees | H |
A patchwork quilt accross my knees | H |
Warming my worn hands in the sun | I |
All ropey with the work they've done | I |

The work they've done to give me this | J |
Brief bit of comfort ease and bliss | J |
My pathway edged with cockle shells | K |
And bright with Canterbury bells | K |
That leads to where my humble thatch is | L |
It too adorned with straw bright patches | M |
