Patches Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBBCCDDD EEFFF GGHHII JJKKLM

Mother focused with a frownA
The part of me where I sit downA
Said she Your pants are wearing throughB
Let me sew on a patch for youB
And so she did of azure blueB
My britches were of sober greyC
And when I went to school next dayC
The fellows said Excuse our smileD
We saw your patch 'way off a mileD
Said I Sure it's the latest styleD
-
So each boy asked his Ma to matchE
With bluer blue my super patchE
And when to school they came en masseF
It was the emblem of our classF
Admired by every bonnie lassF
-
Now when I'm old and in my dotageG
I hope I'll have a humble cottageG
And sit me by a hive of beesH
A patchwork quilt accross my kneesH
Warming my worn hands in the sunI
All ropey with the work they've doneI
-
The work they've done to give me thisJ
Brief bit of comfort ease and blissJ
My pathway edged with cockle shellsK
And bright with Canterbury bellsK
That leads to where my humble thatch isL
It too adorned with straw bright patchesM
