Old Ed Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFE GBHBAEIE JBEBKELE

Our cowman old Ed hadn't much in his headA
And lots of folks though him a witlingB
But he wasn't a fool for he always kept coolC
And his sole recreation was whittlingB
When I'd spill him my woes ifantile I supposeD
He'd harken and whittle and whittleE
then when I had done turn his quid and say SonF
Ye're a drownin' yerself in yer spittleE
-
He's gone to his grave but the counsel he gaveG
I've proved in predicaments tryingB
When I got in a stew feeling ever so blueH
My failures and faults magnifyingB
I'd think of old Ed as he sniffed and he saidA
Shaw them things don't mater a tittleE
Ye darned little cuss why make such a fullI
Ye're a drownin' yerself in yer spittleE
-
When you're tangled with care till you're up in the airJ
And worry and fear have you quakingB
When each tiny trouble seems bigger than doubleE
Till mountains of mole hills you're makingB
Go easy my friend things click in the endK
But maybe 'twill help you a littleE
If you take Ed's advise though it may not sound niceL
Ye're a drownin' yerself in yer spittleE
