Old Boy Scout Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABAB CDCDED FGFGHG HIHIHI

A bonny bird I found todayA
Mired in a melt of tarB
Its silky breast was silver greyA
Its wings were cinnabarB
So still it lay right in the wayA
Of every passing carB
-
Yet as I gently sought to pryC
It loose it glared at meD
You would have thought its foe was IC
It pecked so viciouslyD
So fiercely fought as soft I soughtE
From death to set it freeD
-
Its pinions pitifully frailF
I wrested from the muckG
I feared the feathers of its tailF
Would never come unstuckG
The jewel bright it flashed in flightH
Oh how I wished it luckG
-
With happiness my heart was lightH
To see how fair it flewI
To do my good deed I delightH
As grey haired scouts should doI
Yet oh my bright reward's to writeH
This simple rhyme for youI
