Rhyme Scheme: ABABBCBC DBEBDFEG AHAHIJIJ KBKBLBLB

Let's make him a sailor said FatherA
And he will adventure the seaB
A soldier said Mother is ratherA
What I would prefer him to beB
A lawyer said Father would please meB
For then he could draw up my willC
A doctor said Mother would ease meB
Maybe he could give me a pillC
-
Said Father Lt's make him a curateD
A Bishop in gaiters to beB
Said Mother I couldn't endure itE
To have Willie preaching to meB
Said Father Let him be a poetD
So often he's gathering woolF
Said Mother with temper Oh stow itE
You know it a poet's a foolG
-
Said Farther Your son is a dufferA
A stupid and mischievous elfH
Said Mother who's rather a hufferA
That's right he takes after yourselfH
Controlling parental emotionI
They turned to me seeking a cueJ
And sudden conceived the bright notionI
To ask what I wanted to doJ
-
Said I my ambition is modestK
A clown in a circus I'd beB
And turn somersaults in the sawdustK
With audience laughing at meB
Poor parents they're dead and decayingL
But I am a clown as you seeB
And though in no circus I'm playingL
How people are laughing at meB
