| I've often thought and I'll know maybe | B |
| Some day if the gods are good in giving | A |
| And grant me to turn the century | B |
| Yet in all my eighty years of being | A |
| I've never known but one ancient man | C |
| Who actively feeling hearing seeing | A |
| Survived t beyond the hundred span | C |

| Thinking No I don't guess he pondered | D |
| He had the brains of a tiny tot | E |
| And in his mind he so often wandered | D |
| I doubted him capable of thought | F |
| He hadn't much to think of anyway | G |
| There in the village of his birth | H |
| Painfully poor in a pinching penny way | G |
| And grimed with the soiling of Mother Earth | H |

| Then one day motoring past his cottage | I |
| The hovel in which he had been born | J |
| I saw him supping a mess of pottage | I |
| on the sill door so fail forlorn | J |
| Thinks I I'll give him a joy that's thrilling | A |
| A spin in my open Cadillac | K |
| And so I asked him and he was willing | A |
| And I installed him there in the back | K |

| en I put the big bus through its paces | L |
| A hundred miles an hour or more | M |
| And he clutched at me with queer grimaces | L |
| He's never been in a car before | M |
| The motor roared and the road was level | N |
| The old chap laughed like an impish boy | O |
| And as I drove like the very devil | N |
| Darn him he peed his pants with joy | O |

| And so I crowned his long existence | P |
| By showing him how our modern speed | Q |
| Easily can annihilate distance | P |
| And answer to all our modern need | Q |
| And I went on my way but little caring | A |
| Until I heard to mild dismay | G |
| His drive had thrilled him beyond all bearing | A |
| The poor old devil He died next day | G |
