I always thought them critters was | B |
So kindo' cute | C |
Though round my shack they often came | D |
I'd raise my rifle and take aim | D |
But couldn't shoot | C |
Yet there was one full six feet tall | E |
Who came each night and gobbled all | E |
The grub in sight | F |
On my pet garden truck he'd feast | G |
Until I thought I must at least | G |
Give him a fight | F |
- | |
I put some corn mush in a pan | H |
He lapped it swiftly down and ran | H |
With bruin glee | I |
A second day I did the same | D |
Again with eagerness he came | D |
To gulp and flee | I |
The third day I mixed up a cross | J |
Of mustard and tobasco sauce | J |
And ginger too | K |
Well spiced with pepper of cayenne | L |
Topped it with treacled mush and then | L |
Set out the brew | K |
- | |
He was a huge and husky chap | M |
I saw him shamble to the trap | M |
The dawn was dim | N |
He squatted down on his behind | O |
And through the cheese cloth window blind | O |
I peeked at him | N |
I never saw a bear so glad | P |
A look of joy seraphic had | P |
His visage brown | Q |
He slavered and without suspish | R |
Ion hugged that horrid dish | R |
And swilled it down | Q |
- | |
Just for a moment he was still | S |
Then he erupted loud and shrill | S |
With frantic yell | T |
The picket fence he tried to vault | U |
He turned a double somersault | U |
And ran like hell | T |
I saw him leap into the lake | V |
As if a thirst of fire to slake | V |
And thrash up foam | W |
And then he sped along the shore | X |
And beat his breast with raucous roar | X |
And made for home | W |
- | |
I guess he told the folks back there | Y |
My homestead was taboo for bear | Y |
For since that day | Z |
Although my pumpkins star the ground | A2 |
No other bear has come around | A2 |
Nor trace of bruin have I found | A2 |
Well let me pray | Z |
