In London City I evadeA
For charming Burlington ArcadeA
For thee in youth I met a maidA
By name of MazieB
Who lost no time in telling meB
The Ritz put up a topping teaB
But having only shillings threeB
My smile was hazyB
-
Instead said I it might be sportC
To take a bus to Hampton CourtC
Her manner I remarked was shortC
But she assentedC
We climbed on top and all the wayD
I held her hand I felt quite gayD
Bu Mazie I regret to sayD
Seemed discontentedC
-
In fact we almost had a tiffE
It's true it rained and she was stiffE
And all she did was sneeze and sniffE
And shudder coldlyB
So I said Mazzie there's the mazeF
Let's frolic in its leafy waysF
And buying tickets where one paysF
I entered boldlyB
-
The as the game is we were lotsG
We dashed and darted crissed and crossedC
But Mazie she got vexed and saucedC
Me rather smartlyB
There wasn't but us two aboutC
We hollered no one heard our shoutC
The rain poured down Oh let's get outC
Cried Mazie tartlyB
-
Keep cool says I You fool says sheB
I'm sopping wet I want my teaB
Please take me home she wailed to meB
In accents bitterH
Again we tried this way and thatC
Yet came to where we started atC
And Mazie acted like a catC
A champion spitterH
-
She stomped and romped till all was blueI
Then sought herself to find the clueI
And when I saw her next 'twas throughI
A leafy screeningJ
Come on she cooed and join me hereH
You'll take me to the Savoy dearH
And Heidsieck shall our spirits cheerH
I got her meaningJ
-
And yet I sought her everywhereH
I hurried here I scurried thereH
I took each likely lane I swarH
As I surmised itC
The suddenly I saw once moreH
Confronting me the exit doorH
And I was dashing through beforeH
I realized itC
-
And there I spied a passing busK
Thinks I It's mean to leave her thusK
But after all her fret and fussK
I can't abide herH
So I sped back to London townL
And grubbed alone for half a crownL
On steak and kidney pie washed downL
With sparkling ciderH
-
But since I left that damsel fairH
The thought she may have perished thereH
Of cold starvation and dispairH
Nigh drives me crazyB
So stranger if you should invadeC
The charming Burlington ArcadeC
Tell me if you behold a shadeC
Ghost of a most unhappy maidC
By name of MazieB
