Lowly Laureate Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFE DGHGIGJG KLMLNLLL

O Sacred Muse my lyre excuseA
My verse is vagrant singingB
Rhyme I invoke for simple folkC
Of penny wise upbringingB
For Grannies grey to paste awayD
Within an album coverE
For maids in class to primly passF
And lads to linger overE
-
I take the clay of every dayD
And mould it in my fashionG
I seek to trace the commonplaceH
With humor and compassionG
Of earth am I and meekly tryI
To be supremely humanG
To please I plan the little manJ
And win the little womenG
-
No evil theme shall daunt my dreamK
Of fellow love and pityL
I tune my lute to prostituteM
To priest I pipe my dittyL
Through gutter grime be in my rhymeN
I bow to altars holyL
Lord humble me so I may beL
A Laureate of the LowlyL
