Local Lad Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DEDEFF GHGHII JKJKLL| I never saw a face so bright | A |
| With brilliant blood and joy | B |
| As was the grinning mug last night | A |
| Of Dick our local boy | B |
| When with a clumsy lucky clout | C |
| He knocked the champion out | C |
| - | |
| A week ago he swung a pick | D |
| And sweated in a ditch | E |
| Tonight he's togged up mighty slick | D |
| And fancies himself rich | E |
| With floozies fine food bubbly drink | F |
| He'll go to hell I think | F |
| - | |
| Unless they make another match | G |
| And if they do I guess | H |
| The champion won't have a scratch | G |
| But Dick will be a mess | H |
| His map will be a muck of gore | I |
| As he sprawls on the floor | I |
| - | |
| Then he'll go back his pick to swing | J |
| And sweat deep in the mud | K |
| Yet still I see him in the ring | J |
| So gay with glee and blood | K |
| Dancing a jig and holding high | L |
| His gloves to climb the sky | L |
