Kittens Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH ICICDJDK FLFLMNMN BCBCNONO

A ray of sun strayed softly roundA
For something to caressB
Until a resting place it foundA
Of joy and thankfulnessB
'Twas Minette our Angora catC
With deep contented purrD
Relaxed in rapture on a matC
Three kittens nuzzling herD
-
With tenderness the sunbeam kissedE
her fur of silver greyF
Her eyes held an ecstatic mistE
In boundless bliss she layF
The sunny radiance seemed to holdG
Her longer than it shouldH
As if it sought to shine in goldG
Such mystic motherhoodH
-
The darling kittens grew and grewI
Then one day Mother CatC
Back from their gambolling withdrewI
And glared at them and spatC
Aye though they toddled after herD
With playful stratagemJ
Instead of soft maternal purrD
She snarled and clawed at themK
-
And now she goes her callous wayF
And never gives them heedL
You barely would believe that theyF
Were children of her breedL
Upon the roof we see her creepM
And howl with fiendish toneN
While on the hearth rug softly sleepM
Three kittens on their ownN
-
And such is nature's way it seemsB
And maybe right at thatC
So Mother drop your foolish dreamsB
And emulate the CatC
And when your offspring well are grownN
And strong and swift and tallO
Just turn them out upon their ownN
And let them fight or fallO
