Kittens Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH ICICDJDK FLFLMNMN BCBCNONOA ray of sun strayed softly round | A |
For something to caress | B |
Until a resting place it found | A |
Of joy and thankfulness | B |
'Twas Minette our Angora cat | C |
With deep contented purr | D |
Relaxed in rapture on a mat | C |
Three kittens nuzzling her | D |
- | |
With tenderness the sunbeam kissed | E |
her fur of silver grey | F |
Her eyes held an ecstatic mist | E |
In boundless bliss she lay | F |
The sunny radiance seemed to hold | G |
Her longer than it should | H |
As if it sought to shine in gold | G |
Such mystic motherhood | H |
- | |
The darling kittens grew and grew | I |
Then one day Mother Cat | C |
Back from their gambolling withdrew | I |
And glared at them and spat | C |
Aye though they toddled after her | D |
With playful stratagem | J |
Instead of soft maternal purr | D |
She snarled and clawed at them | K |
- | |
And now she goes her callous way | F |
And never gives them heed | L |
You barely would believe that they | F |
Were children of her breed | L |
Upon the roof we see her creep | M |
And howl with fiendish tone | N |
While on the hearth rug softly sleep | M |
Three kittens on their own | N |
- | |
And such is nature's way it seems | B |
And maybe right at that | C |
So Mother drop your foolish dreams | B |
And emulate the Cat | C |
And when your offspring well are grown | N |
And strong and swift and tall | O |
Just turn them out upon their own | N |
And let them fight or fall | O |
