Julie Claire Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEAE FGHGAIJI KLHLMNOP HHIHQHRH

Oh Julie Claire was very fairA
Yet generous as wellB
And many a lad of metal hadC
A saucy tale to tellB
Of sultry squeeze beneath the treesD
Or hugging in the hayE
Of love her share had Julie ClaireA
When life was lush and gayE
-
And then the village wealth to pillageF
Came the Teuton hordeG
The haughty Huns with mighty gunsH
And clattering of swordG
And Julie Claire had honey hairA
With eyes of soft azureI
So she became the favoured flameJ
Of the KommandaturI
-
But when at last the plague was pastK
The bloody war well wonL
We clipped the locks of every doxH
Who dallied with the HunL
Each wench with scorn was duly shornM
Our Marie the shears would weldN
And Julie's head with ringlets shedO
Was like a turnip peeledP
-
But of these days of wanton waysH
No more the village talksH
For Julie Claire has wed the MaireI
Who clipped her golden locksH
Nay do not try to me IQ
Must suffer for my sinsH
For all agree the Marie must beR
The father of her twinsH
