If You Had A Friend Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH IAIACJCJ

If you had a friend strong simple trueA
Who knew your faults and who understoodB
Who believed in the very best of youA
And who cared for you as a father wouldB
Who would stick by you to the very endC
Who would smile however the world might frownD
I'm sure you would try to please your friendC
You never would think to throw him downD
-
And supposing your friend was high and greatE
And he lived in a palace rich and tallF
And sat like a King in shining stateE
And his praise was loud on the lips of allF
Well then when he turned to you aloneG
And he singled you out from all the crowdH
And he called you up to his golden throneG
Oh wouldn't you just be jolly proudH
-
If you had a friend like this I sayI
So sweet and tender so strong and trueA
You'd try to please him in every wayI
You'd live at your bravest now wouldn't youA
His worth would shine in the words you pennedC
You'd shout his praises yet now it's oddJ
You tell me you haven't got such a friendC
You haven't I wonder What of GodJ
