Henry Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABAB CDCDCD EFEGE HIHIHI BJB BJ

Mary and I were twenty twoA
When we were wedB
A well matched pair right smart to viewA
The town's folk saidB
For twenty years I have been trueA
To nuptial bedB
-
But oh alas The march of timeC
Life's wear and tearD
Now I am in my lusty primeC
With pep to spareD
While she looks ten more years than I'mC
With greying hairD
-
'Twas on our trip dear friends amongE
To New OrleansF
A stranger's silly trip of tongueE
Kiboshed my dreamsG
I heard her say 'How very youngE
His mother seems '-
-
Child bearing gets a woman downH
And six had sheI
Yet now somehow I feel a clownH
When she's with meI
When cuties smile one cannot frownH
You must agreeI
-
How often I have heard it saidB
'For happy fateJ
In age a girl ten years aheadB
Should choose her mate '-
Now twenty years to Mary wedB
I know too lateJ
