Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDED FGFGHIHI JKJLMBMBI had a bitter enemy | A |
His heart to hate he gave | B |
And when I died he swore that he | A |
Would dance upon my grave | B |
That he would leap and laugh because | C |
A livid corpse was I | D |
And that's the reason why I was | E |
In no great haste to die | D |
- | |
And then such is the quirk of fate | F |
One day with joy I read | G |
Despite his vitalizing hate | F |
My enemy was dead | G |
Maybe the poison in his heart | H |
Had helped to haste his doom | I |
He was not spared till I depart | H |
To spit upon my tomb | I |
- | |
The other day I chanced to go | J |
To where he lies alone | K |
'Tis easy to forgive a foe | J |
When he is dead and gone | L |
Poor devil Now his day is done | M |
Though bright it was and brave | B |
Yet I am happy there is none | M |
To dance upon my grave | B |
