While for me gapes the greedy grave | B |
It don't make sense | C |
That I should have a crazy crave | B |
To paint our fence | C |
Yet that is what I aim to do | D |
Though dim my sight | E |
Jest paint them aged pickets blue | D |
Or green or white | E |
- | |
Jest squat serenely in the sun | F |
Wi' brush an' paint | G |
An' gay them pickets one by one | F |
A chore It ain't | G |
The job is joy Although I'm slow | H |
I save expense | C |
So folks let me before I go | H |
Smart that ol' fence | C |
- | |
Them pickets with my hands I made | I |
When young and spry | J |
I coloured them a gleeful shade | I |
To glad the eye | J |
So now as chirpy as a boy | K |
'Ere I go hence | C |
Once more let me jest bright to joy | K |
Our picket fence | C |
