Flower Gardener Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH IJIJKLKL HMHMNONO

Gas got me in the first World WarA
And all my mates at rest are laidB
I felt I might survive them forA
I am a gardener by tradeB
My life is in the open airC
And kindly is the work I doD
Since flowers are my joy and careC
And comfort tooD
-
My flowers are a fairy sightE
Yes I'm an ugly warped old manF
For I have lived in Fate's despiteE
A year beyond one's mortal spanF
And owe my health no gentle toilG
From dawn to dark contented hoursH
Of loving kinship with the soilG
A friend of flowersH
-
My dahlias are my pride todayI
And many my creations beJ
They're worth a fortune people sayI
But what does money mean to meJ
Their glory is my rich rewardK
And as their radiant heads they raiseL
I dedicate them to the LordK
With love and praiseL
-
I grieve to think that sullen PowersH
On bombs and guns their might dependM
If man had heart for growing flowersH
Then would we all be friend and friendM
The glory of the world is hisN
Who seeks salvation in the sodO
And finds that golden sunshine isN
The laugh of GodO
