Don't cheer damn you Don't cheerA
Silence Your bitterest tearB
Is fulsomely sweet to dayC
Down on your knees and prayC
-
See they sing as they goD
Marching row upon rowD
Who will be spared to returnE
Sombre and starkly sternE
Chaps whom we knew s strangeF
Distant and dark with changeF
Silent as those they slewG
Something in them dead tooG
Who will return this wayC
To sing as they sing to dayC
-
Send to the glut of the gunsH
Bravest and best of you sonsH
Hurl a million to slaughterI
Blood flowing like Thames waterI
Pile up pyramid highJ
Your dead to the anguished skyJ
A monument down all timeK
Of hate and horror and crimeK
Weep rage pity curse fearA
Anything but don't cheerA
-
Sow to the ploughing gunsH
Seed of your splendid sonsH
Let your heroic slainL
Richly manure the plainL
What will the harvest beM
Unborn of Unborn will seeM
-
Dark is the sky and drearA
For the pity of God don't cheerA
Dark and dread is their wayC
Who sing as they march to dayC
Humble your hearts and prayC
