Dedication Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH AIAIJKJK

In youth I longed to paintA
The loveliness I sawB
And yet by dire constraintA
I had to study LawB
But now all that is pastC
And I have no regretD
For I am free at lastC
Law to forgetD
-
To beauty newly bornE
With brush and tube I playF
And though my daubs you scornE
I'll learn to paint some dayF
When I am eighty oldG
Maybe I'll better themH
And you may yet beholdG
A gemH
-
Old Renoir used to paintA
Brush strapped to palsied handI
His fervour of a saintA
How I can understandI
My joy is my rewardJ
And though you gently smileK
Grant me to fumble LordJ
A little whileK
