Decadence Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCDE EAFAGHGH IJIJBFBF KLMMNOPP QQAARRSM TTFF

Before the florid porticoA
I watched the gamblers come and goA
While by me on a bench there satB
A female in a faded hatB
A shabby shrinking crumpled creatureC
Of waxy casino ward with eyesD
Of lost soul seeking paradiseE
-
Then from the Caf eacute de la PaixE
There shambled forth a waiter fellowA
Clad dingily down stooped and greyF
With hollow face careworn and yellowA
With furtive feet before our seatG
He came to a respectful standH
And bowed my sorry crone to greetG
Saying Princess I kiss your handH
-
She gave him such a gracious smileI
And bade him linger by her sideJ
So there they talked a little whileI
Of kingly pomp and country prideJ
Of Marquis This and Prince von ThatB
Of Old Vienna glamour gayF
Then sad he rose and raised his hatB
Saying My tables I must layF
-
Yea you must go dear Count she saidK
For luncheon tables must be laidL
He sighed from his alpaca jacketM
He pressed into her hand a packetM
Sorry to day it's all I'm rich inN
A chicken sandwich from the kitchenO
Then bowed and left her after sheP
Had thanked him with sweet dignityP
-
She pushed the package out of sightQ
Within her bag and closed it tightQ
But by and bye I saw her goA
To where thick laurel bushes growA
And there behind that leafy screenR
Thinking herself by all unseenR
That sandwich How I saw her grab itS
And gulp it like a starving rabbitM
-
Thinks I Is all that talk a bluffT
Their dukes and kings and courtly stuffT
The way she ate why one would sayF
She hadn't broken fast all dayF
