Death Of A Cockroach Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDEFEFGG HAHAII CJCJKL BABAMM

I opened wide the bath room doorA
And all at once switched on the lightB
When moving swift across the floorA
I saw a streak of ebon brightB
Then quick with slipper in my handC
Before it could escape I slammedD
I missed it once I missed it twiceE
But got it ere it gained its lairF
I fear my words were far from niceE
Though d s with me are rather rareF
Then lo I thought that dying roachG
Regarded me with some reproachG
-
Said I Don't think I grudge you breathH
I hate to spill your greenish goreA
But why did you invite your deathH
By straying on my bath room floorA
It is because said he or sheI
Adventure is my destinyI
-
By evolution I was plannedC
And marvellously made as youJ
And I am led to understandC
The selfsame God conceived us twoJ
Sire though the coup de gr acirc ce you giveK
Even a roach has right to liveL
-
Said I Of course you have a rightB
But not to blot my bath room floorA
Yet though with slipper I may smiteB
Your doom I morally deploreA
From cellar gloom to stellar spaceM
Let bards and beetles have their placeM
