I knew three sisters all were sweetA
Wishful to wed was IB
And wondered which would mostly meetA
The matrimonial tieB
I asked the first what fate would sheC
Wish joy of life to bring to herD
She answered 'I would like to beC
A concert singer 'E
-
I asked the second for my mindF
Was set on nuptial noosingG
Unto what lot was she inclinedF
If she could have the choosingG
Said she 'For woman I can seeC
No fortune finerD
Than to go in for Art and beC
A dress designer '-
-
With heavy heart I asked the thirdH
What was her life ambitionI
A maiden she in look and wordH
Of modest dispositionI
'Alas I dearly wish ' said sheC
'My aims were deeperD
My highest hope it is to beC
A good house keeper '-
-
Which did I choose Look at my homeJ
The answer's thereK
As neat and sweet as honeycombJ
With children fairK
And so it humbly seems to meC
In common lifeL
A woman's glory is to beC
A good house wifeL
