Captivity Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB AACC AADD AAEE DDFF

O meadow lark so wild and freeA
It cannot be it cannot beA
That men to merchandise your spellB
Do close you in a wicker hellB
-
O hedgerow thrush so mad with gleeA
it cannot be it cannot beA
They rape you from your hawthorn foamC
To make a cell of steel your homeC
-
O blackbird in the orchard treeA
In cannot be it cannot beA
That devils in a narrow cageD
Would prison your melodic rageD
-
O you who live for libertyA
Can you believe that it can beA
That we of freedom's faith destroyE
In dungeons innocence and joyE
-
O decent folk who read this pageD
If you should own a bird in cageD
Throw wide the door God gave it wingsF
Then hear how in your heart it singsF
