Boon Soul Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCACA DEDEAAAA AAAAFAFA ACACFAGA

Behold I'm old my hair is whiteA
My eighty years are in the offingB
And sitting by the fire to nightA
I sip a grog to ease my coughingB
It's true I'm raucous as a rookC
But feeling bibulously bardyA
These lines I'm scribbling in a bookC
The verse complete of Thomas HardyA
-
Although to day he's read by fewD
Him have I loved beyond all measureE
So here to night I riffle throughD
His pages with the oldtime pleasureE
And with this book upon my kneeA
To day so woefully neglectedA
I muse and think how soon I'll beA
Myself among the Great RejectedA
-
Yet as these lines with zest I writeA
Although the hour for me is tardyA
I think Of all the world to nightA
'Tis I alone am reading HardyA
And now to me he seems so nighF
I feel I commune with his spiritA
And as none love him more than IF
Thereby I gain a modest meritA
-
Oh Brother Thomas glad I'll beA
Though all the world may pass unheedingC
If some greybeard con over meA
As I to night your rhymes are readingC
Saying Old Bastard you and IF
By sin are knit in mind and bodyA
So ere to hit the hay I hieG
Your ghost I'll toast in midnight toddyA
