Birds Of A Feather Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DEFEGG HIHIFF JKJKLL

Of bosom friends I've had but sevenA
Despite my years are ripeB
I hope they're now enjoying HeavenA
Although they're not the typeB
Nor candidly no more am IC
Though overdue to dieC
-
For looking back I see that theyD
Were weak and wasteful menE
They loved a sultry jest alwayF
And women now and thenE
They smoked and gambled soused and sworeG
Yet no one was a boreG
-
'Tis strange I took to lads like theseH
On whom the good should frownI
Yet all with poetry would pleaseH
To wash his wassail downI
Their temples touched the starry wayF
But O what feet of clayF
-
Well all are dust of fame bereftJ
They bore a cruel crossK
And I the canny one am leftJ
Yet as I grieve their lossK
I deem because they loved me wellL
They'll welcome me in HellL
