Bill's Prayer Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGAGA HIHIJAKA LMNMOPOQ

I never thought that Bill could sayA
A proper prayerB
'Twas more in his hard bitten wayA
To cuss and swearB
Yet came the night when Baby TedC
Was bitter illD
I tip toed to his tiny bedC
And there was BillD
-
Aye down upon his bended kneesE
I heard him cryF
O God don't take my kiddy pleaseE
Don't let him dieF
Then softly so he would not seeG
I shrank awayA
He would have been so shamed for meG
To see him prayA
-
Men folk are queer Bill acts up toughH
Yet how it's oddI
When things are looking downright roughH
He tunes to GodI
The Parson and the Priest be darnedJ
I've heard him sayA
Yet when his baby is concernedK
He's quick to prayA
-
Maybe it's gentle parent hoodL
That gives us graceM
And in its sacrificial moodN
Uplifts the raceM
Of sentiment all self aboveO
That goodness sumsP
I think the saving best is LoveO
For little onesQ
