Barcelona Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEDE FGFGHIHI JKJKLMLM

The night before I left MilanA
A mob jammed the Cathedral SquareB
And high the tide of passion ranC
As politics befouled the airB
A seething hell of human strifeD
I shrank back from its evil coreE
Seeing in this convulsive lifeD
The living seeds of warE
-
To Barcelona then I cameF
And oh the heavenly releaseG
From conflict and consuming flameF
I knew the preciousness of peaceG
Such veneration for the lawH
How decorous was every oneI
And then significant I sawH
Each copper packed a tommy gunI
-
Well maybe it is best that wayJ
Peace can mean more than libertyK
These people state directed mayJ
Be happier than those more freeK
When politics wield evil gripL
And warring factions rise and fallM
Benevolent dictatorshipL
May be the answer after allM
