An Old Story Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BCBC DEDE FGFG CDHI IHIH JHJH

Retold in RhymeA
-
They threw him in a prison cellB
He moaned upon his bedC
And when he crept from coils of hellB
Last night you killed they saidC
-
last night in drunken rage you slewD
A being brave with breathE
A radiant soul because of youD
Lies dark in deathE
-
last night I killed he moaned distraughtF
When I was wild with wineG
I slew and I remember naughtF
O Mother Mother mineG
-
To what unbridled rage may leadC
You taught me at your knewD
Why did I not your warning heedH
And now the gallows treeI
-
O Mother Mother come to meI
For I am sore distrestH
And I would kneel beside your kneeI
And weep upon your breastH
-
They stared at him their lips were dumbJ
Their eyes tear filledH
Then spoke the Priest She cannot comeJ
'Twas she you killedH
