Amateur Poet Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFGFHIHI JKJKLMLM NONPQCQCYou see that sheaf of slender books | A |
Upon the topmost shelf | B |
At which no browser ever looks | A |
Because they're by myself | B |
They're neatly bound in navy blue | C |
But no one ever heeds | D |
Their print is clear and candid too | C |
Yet no one ever reads | D |
- | |
Poor wistful books How much they cost | E |
To me in time and gold | F |
I count them now as labour lost | G |
For none I ever sold | F |
No copy could I give away | H |
For all my friends would shrink | I |
And look at me as if to say | H |
What waste of printer's ink | I |
- | |
And as I gaze at them on high | J |
Although my eyes are sad | K |
I cannot help but breathe a sigh | J |
To think what joy I had | K |
What ecstasy as I would seek | L |
To make my rhyme come right | M |
And find at last the phrase unique | L |
Flash fulgent in my sight | M |
- | |
Maybe that rapture was my gain | N |
Far more than cheap success | O |
So I'll forget my striving vain | N |
And blot out bitterness | P |
Oh records of my radiant youth | Q |
No broken heart I'll rue | C |
For all my best of love and truth | Q |
Is there alive in you | C |
