Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DEDEFF GEGEHI CJCJKK

They dumped it on the lonely roadA
Then like a streak they spedB
And as along the way I strodeA
I thought that it was deadB
And then I saw that yelping pupC
Rise race to catch them upC
-
You know how silly wee dogs areD
It thought they were in funE
Trying to overtake their carD
I saw it run and runE
But as they faster faster wentF
It stumbled sore and spentF
-
I found it prone upon the wayG
Of life was little tokenE
As limply in the dust it layG
I thought its heart was brokenE
Then one dim eye it opened andH
It sought to like my handI
-
Of course I took it gently upC
And brought it to my wifeJ
Who loves all dogs and now that pupC
Shares in our happy lifeJ
Yet how I curse the bastards whoK
Its good luck never knewK
