Eutaw Springs Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAC DEDF GHGH IEIJ KLKL MNGN OPOP QRQR

At Eutaw Springs the valiant diedA
Their limbs with dust are covered o'erB
Weep on ye springs your tearful tideA
How many heroes are no moreC
-
If in this wreck of ruin theyD
Can yet be thought to claim a tearE
O smite thy gentle breast and sayD
The friends of freedom slumber hereF
-
Thou who shalt trace this bloody plainG
If goodness rules thy generous breastH
Sigh for the wasted rural reignG
Sigh for the shepherds sunk to restH
-
Stranger their humble groves adornI
You too may fall and ask a tearE
'Tis not the beauty of the mornI
That proves the evening shall be clearJ
-
They saw their injured country's woeK
The flaming town the wasted fieldL
Then rushed to meet the insulting foeK
They took the spear but left the shieldL
-
Led by thy conquering standards GreeneM
The Britons they compelled to flyN
None distant viewed the fatal plainG
None grieved in such a cause to dieN
-
But like the Parthian famed of oldO
Who flying still their arrows threwP
These routed Britons full as boldO
Retreated and retreating slewP
-
Now rest in peace our patriot bandQ
Though far from nature's limits thrownR
We trust they find a happier landQ
A bright Phoebus of their ownR
