Poetry is whiteA
it comes from water swathed in dropsB
it wrinkles and gathersC
this planet's skin has to spread outD
the sea's whiteness has to be ironed outD
and the hands keep movingE
the sacred surfaces get smoothedF
and things are done this wayG
the hands make the world every dayG
fire conjoins with steelH
linen canvas and cotton arriveI
from the scuffles in the laundriesJ
and from light a dove is bornK
chastity returns out of the foamL
