Rhyme Scheme: ABBC DEED FGGF HIJH KLLK MBBM

The oleander on the wallA
Grows crimson in the dawning lightB
Though the grey shadows of the nightB
Lie yet on Florence like a pallC
-
The dew is bright upon the hillD
And bright the blossoms overheadE
But ah the grasshoppers have fledE
The little Attic song is stillD
-
Only the leaves are gently stirredF
By the soft breathing of the galeG
And in the almond scented valeG
The lonely nightingale is heardF
-
The day will make thee silent soonH
O nightingale sing on for loveI
While yet upon the shadowy groveJ
Splinter the arrows of the moonH
-
Before across the silent lawnK
In sea green vest the morning stealsL
And to love's frightened eyes revealsL
The long white fingers of the dawnK
-
Fast climbing up the eastern skyM
To grasp and slay the shuddering nightB
All careless of my heart's delightB
Or if the nightingale should dieM
