Tears Of Africa Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CDEE FFGG HHII

Our tears are made of onion ringsA
And some bad karaoke thingsA
For our leaders are quite a sightB
As they dance to songs each nightB
-
We cry for the food that's goneC
And for the power that they've wonD
But we hope for a brighter dayE
When we can eat and dance and playE
-
Oh corruption what a curseF
But we brush it off with some bants and verseF
For we know we'll get through this messG
And our leaders will learn to confessG
-
So let's laugh sing and danceH
And maybe give our leaders a chanceH
For our tears may be full of strifeI
But we know we'll live an amazing lifeI

Poet's note: We feel sorrow for the lack of food and power our leaders have taken, but we remain hopeful for a better future. We use humor and poetry to cope with the corruption that has been inflicted upon us. We will not give up, and instead choose to laugh, sing, and dance in order to make the most of our lives.

Filex Oduor Onyango: It's such a captivating poem and I really adore the kind of creativity that the author uses to indirectly address some of the challenges facing Africa
