Fragment Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEFFGGHHIIJK LMDDNN OOBBPP

They ere he left them had attain'd their primeA
And were less alter'd by the hand of TimeA
But the slim youth no longer met their viewB
Fair as the fancy e'er a seraph drewB
Who still upborne by joy in smiles was foundC
With step elate that scarcely press'd the groundC
Before a grief had raz'd his youthful breastD
Or care had robb'd his brilliant eyes of restD
When lofty visions swam before his sightE
And dreams of empire wrapt his soul at nightE
Whose hair luxuriant flow'd in glossy prideF
And from his snowy forehead wav'd asideF
Which vein'd with purest azure rose sereneG
And threw complacence o'er a rapturous mienG
The wandering light that sparkled in his eyeH
The rounding lip of liveliest crimson dyeH
The speaking form by each emotion sway'dI
The voice that softest music had convey'dI
Were now matur'd No more the child they sawJ
But one with majesty inspiring aweK
Whose silken locks no more in ringlets flowL
But gold and purple bind his manly browM
No more the envied robe his limbs investD
In all the pomp of eastern monarchs drestD
The sun of Egypt had embrown'd his faceN
And time had ripen'd every youthful graceN
-
As when the morn in vivid colours gayO
And tender beauty flies to meet the dayO
Her lively tints lose their primeval hueB
The white and saffron mingle with the blueB
A glowing blush o'er the whole ether reignsP
But not a cloud its genuine tint retainsP
