The Oak And Its Branches. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABCDDEEFG HHIIJKLL KKMMKKNNKK

An Oak with spreading Branches crown'dA
Beheld an Ivy on the GroundA
Expos'd to ev'ry trampling BeastB
That roam'd around the dreary WasteC
The Tree of Jove in all his StateD
With Pity view'd the Ivy's FateD
And kindly told her She should findE
Security around his RindE
Nor was that only his IntentF
But to bestow some NourishmentG
-
The Branches saw and griev'd to seeH
Some Juices taken from the TreeH
Parent say they in angry ToneI
Your Sap should nourish us aloneI
Why should you nurse this Stranger PlantJ
With what your Sons in time may wantK
May want to raise us high in AirL
And make us more distinguish'd thereL
-
'Tis well the Parent Tree reply'dK
Must I to gratify your PrideK
Act only with a narrow ViewM
Of doing Good to none but youM
Know Sons tho' Jove hath made me greatK
I am not safe from Storms of FateK
Is it not prudent then I prayN
To guard against another DayN
Whilst I'm alive You crown my HeadK
This graces me alive and deadK
