| The Tree of Jove in all his State | D |
| With Pity view'd the Ivy's Fate | D |
| And kindly told her She should find | E |
| Security around his Rind | E |
| Nor was that only his Intent | F |
| But to bestow some Nourishment | G |
| - | |
| The Branches saw and griev'd to see | H |
| Some Juices taken from the Tree | H |
| Parent say they in angry Tone | I |
| Your Sap should nourish us alone | I |
| Why should you nurse this Stranger Plant | J |
| With what your Sons in time may want | K |
| May want to raise us high in Air | L |
| And make us more distinguish'd there | L |
| - | |
| 'Tis well the Parent Tree reply'd | K |
| Must I to gratify your Pride | K |
| Act only with a narrow View | M |
| Of doing Good to none but you | M |
| Know Sons tho' Jove hath made me great | K |
| I am not safe from Storms of Fate | K |
| Is it not prudent then I pray | N |
| To guard against another Day | N |
| Whilst I'm alive You crown my Head | K |
| This graces me alive and dead | K |
