The Last Winter Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABC DEF GHI JKL BMJ JJM NJM

People are sending and receiving gifts and lettersA
Some are visiting their loved ones in late DecemberB
It is the coldest but happiest season of the yearC
-
Shoppers are in the supermarkets and the storesD
Greeting cards and wrapping papers are on the racksE
And everyone is pushing a trolley full of groceriesF
-
Taxicabs are zooming up and down the busy streetsG
Some people are just lingering on the sidewalksH
They are all wearing woolly sweater and fluffy mittensI
-
Sleigh bells are ringing all over the neighbourhoodJ
And pairs of agile horses are pulling shiny sledsK
Little children are running and playing in the snowL
-
Two bottles of red wine are chilling in the refrigeratorB
A fruit cake and a jug of sorrel are on the tableM
And the spicy turkey in the oven sure smells goodJ
-
There is an old fireplace to warm my hands and feetJ
Is it so cosy in the wintertime all around the worldJ
I suppose it depends on the tradition of the peopleM
-
As I look at the picture of my beloved on the wallN
I reflect on the last winter we held each other s handJ
And I hear a choir singing a carol in the cathedralM
