My First Child Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFGH IJKLI DMNOPQ KERDST UVABW

I love to take my year old daughter shoppingA
She s my first childB
I hold her by the handC
And off we go together down the streetD
I start walking too fast for herE
She asks me to slow downF
I observe her strideG
And three of her steps make one of mineH
-
I take her to Taco Bell to buy her an ice creamI
The ice cream falls off the coneJ
And it makes a splatter on the floorK
She points to the ground and criesL
Daddy daddy I want back my ice creamI
-
We go to the sweet shop to get her a treatD
The little girl wants everything she seesM
Oh she s such a delightN
She brightens up my dayO
And she makes the vendor smileP
She gets a large lollipop and she beamsQ
-
We re now in the department storeK
I ll buy some new clothes for herE
She tries on a pair of slippersR
They look so cute on her tiny feetD
She takes a Raggedy Ann doll to the cashierS
And then she skips along with meT
-
It s fun to walk with her around the blockU
A neighbour waves to us and saysV
She s such a sweet little darlingA
An elderly woman asks me Is she your first childB
And I smile at her and say YesW
