Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHIH JKLK MANA OAPA QLRL STUT

A spirit is out to nightA
His steeds are the winds oh listB
How he madly sweeps o'er the cloudsC
And scatters the driving mistB
-
We will let the curtains fallD
Between us and the stormE
Wheel the sofa up to the hearthF
Where the fire is glowing warmE
-
Little student leave your bookG
And come and sit by my sideH
If you dote on Tennyson soI
I'll be jealous of him my brideH
-
There now I can call you my ownJ
Let me push back the curls from your browK
And look in your dark eyes and seeL
What my bird is thinking of nowK
-
Is she thinking of some high perchM
Of freedom and lofty flightA
You smile oh little wild birdN
You are hopelessly bound to nightA
-
You are bound with a golden ringO
And your captor like some grim knightA
Will lock you up in the deepest cellP
Of his heart and hide you from sightA
-
Sweetheart sweetheart do you hear far awayQ
The mournful voice of the seaL
It is telling me of the timeR
When I thought you were lost to meL
-
Nay love do not look so sadS
It is over the doubt and the painT
Hark sweet to the song of the fireU
And the whisper of the rainT
